Microsoft Teams AI U-Turn, AI Actor Tilly Norwood, and More Small Business Tech News (2026)

In the ever-evolving landscape of small business technology, it's crucial to stay ahead of the curve and understand the impact of emerging trends. Microsoft's recent AI U-turn is a prime example of how user feedback can shape the future of technology. The company's decision to give Teams users more control over AI features is a welcome development, as it addresses privacy concerns and allows for more personalized usage. This shift in approach is significant, as it empowers users to make decisions about when and how AI is integrated into their workflow, rather than being forced to adapt to a one-size-fits-all solution. Personally, I think this is a positive step towards a more user-centric approach to technology, where the needs and preferences of individuals are prioritized.

The rise of AI actors like Tilly Norwood is another fascinating development. While some may argue that AI-generated performers could replace human talent, I believe they offer a unique opportunity for creators with limited budgets. AI actors can bring new perspectives and innovative storytelling techniques to the table, and I'm excited to see how they shape the future of entertainment. However, I also understand the concerns of traditional actors and the need for ethical considerations in the development of AI-generated performers.

AI dictation tools are becoming increasingly popular in the workplace, and for good reason. The ability to speak naturally while the AI cleans up grammar, punctuation, and formatting makes voice input more practical and efficient. I've seen firsthand how these tools can streamline tasks and improve productivity, particularly in small businesses. Voice recognition is becoming a significant way to implement AI, and I predict its use will continue to grow in the coming years.

The trend of SMBs replacing traditional CRM platforms with custom-built solutions is also noteworthy. While I don't necessarily agree with the idea of 'vibe-coded' applications replacing platforms like Salesforce, I do see the potential for AI to develop integrated or offshoot applications within the Salesforce environment. However, I believe that businesses need to work with technology providers that offer secure, private, scalable platforms with a large ecosystem of support, partners, experts, and developers. Salesforce, and other big technology platforms, excel in this regard, and I don't see small businesses replacing them anytime soon.

Finally, the increase in cost-per-click (CPC) is a concern for businesses, particularly in the face of rising inflation. While the war in the Mideast and other world hot spots may contribute to supply chain issues, I don't believe that's the primary reason for the 15% increase in CPC. In my opinion, this is yet another way online advertisers, like Google, are reaping profits. As a small business owner, there's little we can do until AI replaces Google search with something more affordable. I'm looking forward to that day.
